We are seeking a results-driven and forward-thinking Director of Research & Development to lead our R&D initiatives, develop cutting-edge feed formulations, and drive product innovation for both commercial and companion animals.
Position Summary:
The Director of Research & Development will play a key leadership role in the development and optimization of feed formulations, nutritional evaluation, and product innovation. This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic insight, driving continuous improvement in product performance, cost-efficiency, and regulatory compliance. The position also collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, customers, and suppliers to strengthen business partnerships and support long-term growth.

Key Responsibilities:
Nutrition & Feed Formulation:
- Use Concept-5 or similar formulation software to develop and refine feed for cattle, swine, poultry, equine, and companion animals.
- Ensure all products meet nutritional requirements, AAFCO regulations, and customer expectations.
- Optimize formulations based on ingredient availability, seasonal changes, and cost-efficiency while complying with AAFCO and nutrient guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records of feed formulas, ingredients, and nutritional values.
- Provide nutritional expertise and support for internal teams including Sales and Customer Service.
- Investigate and resolve nutrition-related customer complaints in collaboration with Quality and Food Safety leadership.
- Write and implement raw ingredient specifications with QA and Procurement teams.
- Develop monthly content for marketing initiatives that highlight products, feeding programs and dealer engagement.
Research & Development:
- Lead R&D initiatives for both internal brands and private label customers.
- Identify and evaluate new ingredients, trends, and application techniques.
- Recommend new product ideas and improvements based on market feedback and field data.
- Stay current on industry trends, competitor products, and emerging technologies in animal nutrition.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Animal Nutrition, or related field (Master’s or PhD preferred).
- 3-5+ years of experience in feed formulation or a related role.
- Proficiency with Concept-5 or other feed formulation software.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional environment.
- Practical understanding of livestock or farming operations is a plus.
