TFP recently lost a dear member of its family with the passing of Aunt Peggy, who was beloved by all who knew her. She was the beloved matriarch of the Wright family and matriarch of TFP. Peggy Wright was extraordinary woman and in celebration of her life, we would like to tell a little about her life and her accomplishments.

Peggy was born and raised in Nacogdoches. At an early age she began attending SFA Demonstration School which started a lifelong devotion to the university. During WWII, she met and fell in love with serviceman, Tom Wright, whom she married in 1942. While he served in the war, Peggy continued her education and graduated in 1944. After the war, they made their home here, where he worked for the family business, and raised two smart, beautiful daughters. She was very involved in the Nacogdoches Community and served in numerous organizations. She held a long-term dedication to SFA.

Throughout the years, Peggy was bestowed many honors, including Chair of SFA Board of Regents, Nacogdoches Woman of the Year, 1989; and was given an Honorary University Doctorate in 1997. Over the years Tom and Peggy Wright gave generously to SFA, including the funding of the Wedgeworth – Wright Endowment for the Arts and in 1999 the music building on campus was named The Tom and Peggy Wright Music Building in honor of their many years of support for SFA.

Peggy was also President of the Cum Concilio Club, regent for Nacogdoches Chapter Daughters of the Republic, Citizens 1st Bank Board of Director, member of Texas Council of Economic Education Board of Directors and Life Master of American Contract Bridge League.

Peggy lived to be 95, strong and independent to the end. She will surely be missed.
