JOB PURPOSE

Packaging Operators are responsible for the packaging quality pet food. They are responsible for knowing and following safety, quality, and food safety guidelines.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Reports directly to the Shift Supervisor.
• Works closely with and performs QA duties.
• Knows and follows all food safety guidelines.
• Completes all required production and quality documents.
• Operates all equipment related to the packaging process.
• Performs assigned sanitation duties.
• Perform maintenance duties.
• Labels bags with special stickers as instructed.
• Follows all employee safety rules and regulations.
• Performs other assigned duties.
• Know and perform all SOP’s related packaging.
• Be trained and fully qualified in the FSM and HACCP food safety program.

AUTHORITY

To act within established limits.  This position will be covered by a cross-trained employee who is totally trained in all aspects of the position.  If a cross-trained employee is not available then the position will be filled with overtime of an employee who is totally trained in the position. Employees will have knowledge and comply with the FSM and HACCP food safety program.  Plant Management will be available for consultation and guidance on any issues that arise that are beyond the training and or the authority of the packaging operator.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Good manual and finger dexterity.
• Good hand-eye coordination.
• Occasional climbing, bending, stooping, crouching and kneeling.
• Ability to repeatedly lift 50 pounds daily. Could be up to 1000 times per day/shift.

COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS

• Must have adequate math skills.
• Must be able to read and comprehend instructions.
• Must have a reasonable mechanical aptitude.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employees in this position must be able to perform under the following conditions:

• Dusty conditions that may require wearing dust masks.
• Warehouse work area is not climate controlled and employee is subject to inside environmental conditions; protected from the weather conditions, but subject to temperature extremes and variations.
